Just jump over or roll under them! Obviously, these can have setbacks. Rolling under your opponent, wether to attack them or avoid them, is a very useful thing. In Nidhogg, you can jump, dodge, roll, whatever your heart (and the rest of your body) so desire. One of the greatest things about Nidhogg isn't even the weapons it's how to avoid them. Attacks will be blocked by different stances, so be sure to test them out and see what works and what doesn't. The sword won't stop for anything except a wall and the other players body. Normal standing attacks do a plain swipe forward, but with proper ettiquite, you can throw your weapon across the map! By holding your sword above your head and attacking, you hurl your sword forward. ![]() It will come to you remarkably easy.Įven with the diversity of attacks in Nidhogg, there is only one button that attacks (once again, this depends on key bindings.) This attack changes on what you decide to do. To truly understand Nidhogg's gameplay precisely, you just need to play it for a few minutes. Keeping your sword in high stance could block someone attacking you from above, while a medium stance may keep a thrown sword at you from going right through you. These stances can be changed with different keys, depending on your bindings. There are 3 stances you can keep your sword in low, medium, and high. The game is simplistic enough to be easy to learn, but also complex enough to be hard to master. ![]() The swordplay and fighting in Nidhogg is something that cannot compare to anything else in gaming.Īs complex as it seems, you can learn how to do everything fighting-related in Nidhogg in a couple of minutes. You, being the player, will learn how to use this effectively and accurately. Each of the players is armed with a sword, and knows their way around it. Now add murderous pits, bloodthirsty fencers and conveyer belts. Until you kill that person, you can't progress through your levels and win. Each map has a number of levels on each side, with one in the center. When killed, the other player gains momentum, meaning they can travel through levels of their side. Your job is to go to the finish of your side to get eaten by the Nidhogg without letting the other do the same. One side belongs to one, and the other to the other. There are 2 players, and each start a couple yards away looking at each other. Nidhogg is one of the greatest games I have played, especially in the fighter genre. It combines the fun of swordplay and fighting with tactics like dodging and running, with a goal other than to kill the other person. This is what makes Nidhogg such a great and unique game. With one small advantage the game is shifted in that person's favor. There are hundreds of ways to win, from running away, killing yourself, or just going all out warrior. But Nidhogg, like lots of other games, is more fun, challenging, and chaotic than just that. It almost feels like a virtual board game in a way, with a set of rules and one main goal. What I love about Nidhogg is how simplistic of a game it is.
